Printable word games

Print a word sheet for the players and a story sheet for the reader. Pick one story or a whole party pack.

How to play on paper

Print one word sheet for each player or team, and one story sheet for whoever reads.

  1. Fill in the word sheets. Players write a word for every prompt without seeing the story. The hints under each prompt mean younger players can manage on their own.
  2. Read the story sheet aloud. At each numbered blank, the player calls out their word with that number. Tagged words, like the hero’s name, keep the same number every time they appear.
  3. Play again. A story sheet works with any number of word sheets, so the same story can be read once for each player.

In the classroom, the word sheet doubles as parts of speech practice: ask students to circle their nouns, or to swap one word for a stronger adjective before the reading. Tick Bigger writing lines for younger children, and add a name and date line when sheets go into folders.

Printing: Print opens your browser’s print window, where you can also save the sheets as a PDF. Each sheet starts on a new page and prints clearly in black and white.

Questions

Can I print a story I wrote myself?

Yes. Write it in the story game maker and press Print sheets. Your story opens here, ticked and ready to print.

How many players can share one story?

As many as you like. Give each player or team a word sheet, and read the story sheet once for each of them.

Why is there no answer key?

There are no right answers. Any noun works where the sheet asks for a noun, and the less it fits the story, the funnier the reading.
